Imported 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser VX FJ62 With Rare 5-Speed Manual Heads to Auction in Michigan

A Middle Eastern-market 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser VX FJ62 is drawing interest as it heads toward the closing days of an online auction, offering a rare combination of classic Land Cruiser durability and a factory five-speed manual transmission. Located in Dearborn, Michigan, the SUV has recorded a high bid of $21,500 with five days remaining and continues to attract attention from collectors and off-road enthusiasts.

Part of Toyota’s 60 Series lineup, the FJ62 was developed to blend rugged off-road capability with improved comfort for long-distance travel. By the late 1980s, the VX specification represented a premium configuration for select global markets. This example was reportedly purchased in 2020 from the family of its original owner in Yemen and later imported to the United States. It now shows approximately 88,500 kilometers, or about 55,000 miles, noted as total mileage unknown.

Power comes from a carbureted 4.0-liter 3F inline-six engine paired with a two-speed transfer case and a five-speed manual transmission. The manual gearbox, identified as the FJ762 unit, was not originally offered in U.S.-market FJ62 models, making this configuration particularly uncommon domestically. The drivetrain reflects the Land Cruiser’s reputation for mechanical simplicity and longevity.

Finished in a two-tone beige and gray exterior, the SUV features orange and gold side graphics and quad rectangular headlights. Additional exterior elements include rear barn doors, sliding rear quarter windows, D-pillar vents, and factory 15-inch steel wheels fitted with recently installed Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires. A rear-mounted jerry can, pintle hitch, and aftermarket front bumper brush guard add to its utilitarian character.

Inside, the VX trim level brought upgraded features such as automatic climate control air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, and a two-tone brown and tan cloth interior with seating for seven. The cabin includes inward-facing rear jump seats, a rear cooler, and a center console ice maker, highlighting the model’s focus on long-range comfort. A Kenwood Bluetooth head unit has been added, along with a custom two-tone wrapped steering wheel.

Recent maintenance reportedly includes a new alternator, battery, thermostat, oil and coolant service, air conditioning recharge, and installation of new OEM fender flares. Cosmetic wear, dents, and scratches are noted, along with general interior wear consistent with age.

The Land Cruiser is offered with spare parts, importation documentation, a toolkit and jack, and a clean Michigan title, presenting a distinctive example of a globally sourced VX-spec FJ62 now available to U.S. buyers. See it here.
