A striking piece of NASCAR history is hitting the auction block—a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo transformed into a faithful tribute to Dale Earnhardt’s iconic GM Goodwrench race car. But unlike many tribute builds, this one carries the DNA of real competition, having been originally constructed by Laughlin Racing Products for use in the Busch Grand National Series.
While it never turned laps under Earnhardt himself, the Monte Carlo's racing roots are authentic. It was purpose-built for driver Ricky Craven, and the car’s chassis and components were developed for the rigors of professional stock car competition. Today, it serves as both a rolling homage to "The Intimidator" and a fully functional vintage race machine.
Under the hood sits a high-performance 355-cubic-inch small-block Chevrolet V8, built with GM Bowtie heads, an Edelbrock Victor intake, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor. Tuned to run on 112-octane race fuel, the engine breathes through an 8-quart racing oil pan and sends power to a Ford 9-inch rear end via a stout four-speed manual transmission.
Race-prepped with six-piston Brembo brakes, Grand National 5-on-5 hubs, and a full competition-grade suspension system, this car is more than a static tribute. It has logged approximately 1,000 miles on the track in exhibition and vintage racing events across Maine and New Hampshire, including laps at the famed New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
