A 1973 Dodge Charger SE, once built for comfort and style during the twilight of the muscle car era, has been transformed into a high-performance machine with modern engineering and significantly increased power.
Originally equipped with a 400 cubic inch V8 producing modest output, this Charger has undergone an extensive rebuild that replaces its factory drivetrain with a fuel-injected 7.0-liter Gen III Hemi V8. The upgraded engine, featuring CNC-ported heads, a forged crankshaft, and a cold-air intake, delivers a dyno-tested 600 horsepower. Power is routed through a 545RFE five-speed automatic transmission and sent to a limited-slip rear end with 4.10:1 gearing, supported by upgraded axles and a custom driveshaft.
The transformation extends far beyond the engine bay. The chassis has been comprehensively reworked to handle the increased performance. A modern front suspension system with rack-and-pinion steering replaces older components, while a four-link rear setup improves stability and traction. Adjustable coilover suspension is fitted at all four corners, accompanied by sway bars, traction bars, and additional structural bracing.
Braking performance has also been significantly improved with a four-wheel disc system featuring drilled and slotted rotors, four-piston calipers, and an upgraded booster. The car rides on 17-inch Rallye-style wheels wrapped in staggered performance tires, further reinforcing its modernized driving capability.
Visually, the Charger retains its 1970s identity while adopting a more aggressive presence. The body was refinished in Hemi Orange with white striping and period-inspired graphics. Inside, the cabin has been refreshed with white upholstery across the seats, door panels, and carpeting. Modern touches include aftermarket air conditioning, a center console with a performance-style shifter, and updated steering components, while woodgrain accents preserve the car’s original character.
