1978 Chevrolet Camaro Race Car With 411 RWHP Listed for $39,900 in Michigan

A heavily modified 1978 Chevrolet Camaro race car is now available for $39,900 at GR Auto Gallery’s Metro Detroit facility in Commerce Township, Michigan.

Finished in Graphite Gray over a white and gray interior, the second-generation Camaro has logged 2,815 miles since completion of its no-compromise performance build. Originally part of a generation produced from 1970 through 1981, the 1978 model year represented a continued refinement of the platform during a transitional era for American muscle cars. While factory performance was tempered by tightening emissions regulations at the time, modified examples such as this one highlight the platform’s broader capabilities.

Under the hood sits a 350 cubic-inch V8 that has been de-stroked to 333 cubic inches and produces 411 horsepower at the rear wheels. The engine build includes a Mahle forged and thermal-coated crankshaft with a big block snout, billet four-bolt splayed main caps, forged front bearing retainer and AFR 195cc cylinder heads. Additional performance components include a Crane billet roller camshaft with roller lifters and double chrome moly springs, an Xceldyne belt drive system and a Quick Fuel custom 780 CFM carburetor. A custom two-gallon wet sump oiling system, MSD ignition components and Hooker Super Competition headers round out the setup.

Power is delivered through a four-speed Borg Warner Super T-10 manual transmission. The car is equipped with a Tilton floor-mounted pedal assembly featuring dual brake master cylinders, a remote bias-adjustable balance bar and a hydraulic clutch master cylinder.

The race-focused interior features Italian suede Corbeau seats, R.J.S. five-point cam lock harnesses, brushed aluminum door panels and a carbon fiber lift-off hood with composite hood and doors. Instrumentation includes Dakota Digital gauges supplemented by Auto Meter fuel pressure and mixture gauges. A MOMO leather steering wheel and Summit Racing shifter further emphasize the track-ready design.

Despite its race-oriented build, the Camaro carries a clean Michigan title and is described as street-ready. Recent maintenance includes fresh oil, coolant and brake fluid changes.
