A heavily modified 1963 Chevrolet Carryall Suburban is drawing interest among classic vehicle enthusiasts, offering a combination of vintage utility styling and modern mechanical upgrades. Priced at $39,500, the two-door model has been transformed into a reliable driver with significant performance enhancements and long-distance capability.
Originally built as a school bus in Arizona, the vehicle has undergone a comprehensive custom build, including a modern drivetrain and upgraded suspension. At its core is a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 crate engine producing 425 horsepower, paired with a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission. The setup was installed as part of a GM Connect & Cruise package, ensuring compatibility between the engine, transmission, wiring, and control systems.
The Carryall was constructed by a Utah-based shop for participation in the 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour, a demanding event known for long-distance driving. Since then, it has accumulated more than 30,000 miles, with approximately 25,000 miles added by its current owner. The vehicle has been used regularly and is described as dependable and capable of extended road trips.
Suspension upgrades play a key role in its drivability. The front end features tubular control arms and adjustable coilover shocks, while the rear includes a link-bar setup with coilovers and a professionally built 12-bolt rear axle equipped with 3.73 positraction gearing. Braking performance has also been modernized with Wilwood disc brakes installed at all four corners.
The vehicle rides on Detroit Steel wheels, measuring 18 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear, contributing to both its stance and handling. Despite its mechanical upgrades, the exterior retains a vintage character. The paint, which is more than three decades old, shows signs of age but remains presentable as a driver-quality finish.
The Carryall has also served a practical purpose, previously used for travel related to motorcycle sourcing for a business. With its current owner stepping back from that work, the vehicle is now being offered for sale.
