Broad Arrow Auctions is bringing one of the most charming lots of its Global Icons: Zoute Online 2026 sale to the block: a half-scale 1980 BMW 328 Junior built by Stimula. Offered without reserve as Lot 101 on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, it carries an estimate of €12,000 to €18,000 and gives a young driver a real internal-combustion taste of one of BMW's most celebrated pre-war sports cars.

A Family Business Built on Miniature Legends

In the 1970s, Xavier De La Chapelle, heir to Automobiles Stimula De La Chapelle, a French marque founded in the early 20th century, revived the family business with a focus on faithful replicas of legendary automobiles for children. His workshop turned out junior versions of the Bugatti Type 55, the Ferrari 330 P2 and the rare BMW 328.

The car they were copying earned its reputation honestly. Fewer than 500 examples of the original BMW 328 were built in the late 1930s, and the six-cylinder roadster distinguished itself in the era's most prestigious races, dominating the two-liter class while remaining a formidable road car. That competition record made it one of BMW's most celebrated pre-war automobiles.

Munich-Approved and Built to a Real Standard

This is no toy-box afterthought. The 328 Junior is crafted to such a high standard that BMW approved its production, and it is No. 107 of a limited edition. The details are all there: the unmistakable kidney grille crowned by the BMW roundel, which also appears at the center of the steering wheel, on all four wheels and on the trunk, plus a bonnet secured by twin leather straps.

Underneath is a proper engine, a 110 cc, 3.5-hp Honda unit with adjustable top speed of up to 40 km/h, so parents can set the pace as skills develop. The drivetrain is a genuine miniature of automotive engineering, with chain drive, rack-and-pinion steering, an automatic clutch and drum brakes.

Inside, an aluminum dashboard carries three dials, including a Jaeger-branded speedometer and clock, flanking the electric key starter and turn-signal switches. The identification plate reads "BMW 328 JUNIOR, STIMULA constructeur Brignais – Lyon (France) N° 107," and the cabin is finished with a beautifully patinated beige leather seat.

Eligible for Little Big Mans and the Zoute Kids Concours

Because it is built from quality materials and powered by a real engine, this BMW is eligible for the Little Big Mans race held during Le Mans Classic in France, as well as the Zoute Kids Concours by Broad Arrow during Zoute Grand Prix Car Week in Belgium. It is equally at home on the driveway for endless adventures.

With a growing calendar of events for young enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic, it is a wonderful way to pass the passion for motoring on to the next generation, and one of the more approachable entry points into the Zoute sale. Broad Arrow's Belgian week has also drawn a very different kind of machine, including the Kimera EVO37 Lancia 037 tribute, the first-ever 1990 MCA Centenaire and the 1974 Mercedes-Benz O 317 Porsche Renntransporter tribute.
