A new automotive YouTuber has made a memorable entrance into the scene by documenting the discovery of three sports cars left untouched for years inside an abandoned barn. Madison Merchel’s first video showcases a silver Ferrari 360 Modena, a yellow Porsche 986 Boxster S and a dark blue Porsche 996 Carrera, each buried under dust, mold and signs of critter habitation. While barn finds range widely in scale, the combination of these three early-2000s icons has quickly drawn interest from enthusiasts.
Merchel spent months working with the late owner’s family before ultimately purchasing all three cars in their deteriorated condition. The gamble was significant: none had run in years, and each showed different challenges. The Boxster housed a mouse nest in its front trunk, the Ferrari’s interior exhibited mold growth and the Carrera appeared to have been stationary for roughly a decade, complete with an aftermarket air intake. The Porsches both feature manual transmissions, while the 360 Modena is equipped with Ferrari’s F1 automated manual gearbox, though Merchel noted the possibility of converting it to a traditional gated manual later.
Despite their long dormancy, all three cars fired back to life with minimal preparation. New fluids and fresh batteries were enough to coax them into running, though not without drama. Thick smoke poured from the exhausts, in particular the 360, which practically disappeared into a cloud as it edged out of the barn. The early startup conditions raised questions about overfilled oil or other issues that may surface later, leaving viewers eager for future updates.
The restoration prospects vary across the trio. Porsche continues to support many of its older models with period-correct trim materials, which may simplify the cosmetic revival of the Boxster and the 996 Carrera. The Ferrari, however, could require considerably more work due to its complexity and the visible condition of its cabin.
Although new to YouTube, Merchel brings experience from her broader presence in the automotive community, where she already shares a garage that includes a Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS, an FD Mazda RX-7 and a 1JZ-swapped Nissan N13. She has also spent time working on an E36-generation BMW M3, adding to her credibility as she takes on three new projects.
Whether she chooses faithful restorations or more personalized builds, the series is shaping up to be one that enthusiasts will want to follow as these once-forgotten cars return to the spotlight.
