A remarkably clean, low-mile example of Mercedes-AMG's completely reimagined flagship roadster has hit the block, and it's easy to see why bidders are paying attention. This 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL55 is currently listed on Hagerty Marketplace, credited to seller Collectible Classics, with the high bid already well past $60,000 and days still remaining on the auction clock.
The SL nameplate traces back to the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL of the 1950s, but this R232-generation car marks a genuine turning point for the badge: it's the first SL ever developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. That heritage is stamped right on the engine bay, where a handcrafted plaque bears the name of the technician who assembled it under AMG's "One Man, One Engine" program.
Under the hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, sent through a nine-speed automatic and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, which comes standard on the SL55. The new generation also swaps the old retractable hardtop for a power-operated fabric top, while rear-axle steering and AMG Active Ride Control suspension sharpen handling without giving up the comfortable, grand-touring manners the SL has always been known for.
This particular car wears Opalite White Bright metallic paint over a vivid red Nappa leather interior with carbon-fiber trim, and shows just over 6,400 miles on the odometer. Retractable flush-fit door handles, forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber, power-assisted ceramic composite brakes, and a Burmester surround sound system round out a spec sheet built for owners who want their SL to look as sharp as it drives.
The car is being offered with a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, a clean Pennsylvania title, both original key fobs, and its owner's manual and service documentation — the kind of paperwork that matters just as much as pedigree when it comes to a modern collector car. With bidding active and climbing, this SL55 is shaping up to be one of the more interesting modern-classic auctions to watch this week, and it's easy to understand the appeal for anyone chasing a nearly new AMG halo car with the history to back it up.
