A rare piece of World Superbike history is currently up for grabs, as this 1999 Aprilia RSV1000 Mille SP is listed on Bring a Trailer, with bidding underway ahead of the auction's close later this month. Only 150 examples of the Mille SP were ever built, making this a genuine collector's item for fans of Italian sport bikes and homologation-special motorcycles.
Aprilia built the Mille SP specifically to satisfy World Superbike Championship homologation rules, giving factory racers a production-based starting point for competition. At the heart of the bike is a 998cc fuel-injected V-twin engineered in collaboration with Cosworth, featuring a shorter stroke, larger bore, and SP-specific internals that were never fitted to the standard Mille. Aprilia rated the dry-sump engine at 145 horsepower from the factory, sending power to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive.
Underneath its carbon-fiber bodywork, the Mille SP rides on an aluminum beam frame that Aprilia engineered to be roughly 20 percent stiffer than the standard version's chassis without adding weight, with geometry that can be fine-tuned through an adjustable swingarm pivot, steering-head angle, and engine mounting position. Suspension duties fall to fully adjustable Öhlins components at both ends, an inverted 41mm fork up front and a piggyback-reservoir shock at the rear, while Brembo handles braking with dual four-piston calipers on 298mm discs up front and a single twin-piston caliper on a 256mm disc out back. Lightweight OZ five-spoke wheels are wrapped in Metzeler rubber sized 120/70 up front and 180/50 at the rear.
Climb aboard and the SP's racing intentions are obvious: low clip-on bars sit below the top triple clamp, and an analog tachometer redlines just past 12,000 rpm alongside a pair of digital readouts for speed and trip data. According to the seller, the odometer currently shows roughly 16,000 miles, with only about 100 of those added under current ownership. A numbered plaque on the triple clamp identifies this particular machine as unit 142 of the 150-example production run, a detail that collectors of homologation specials tend to care about a great deal.
This particular Mille SP spent its early life in the United Kingdom before its current owner imported it to the United States in 2025, and the motorcycle is now backed by a clean Tennessee title in the seller's name. Portions of the carbon-fiber bodywork have reportedly been refinished at AP Workshops, and the sale includes a tool kit, an owner's manual, and service records for the next caretaker.
