Škoda has turned to its storied past to inspire a bold vision of its electric future, unveiling a modern reinterpretation of the legendary 110 R coupé. The one-off design concept revives the spirit of the 1970s sports car while integrating the brand’s new “Modern Solid” design philosophy and all-electric technology.
Created by Škoda designer Richard Švec, the 2025 110 R concept represents more than nostalgia — it’s a statement about how heritage and innovation can coexist. “The goal was to capture the spirit of the 110 R in a car that feels innovative and absolutely contemporary,” Švec said. “Finding the right balance between heritage and modernity was the real challenge.”
While the original 110 R was powered by a 1.1-liter rear-mounted engine and famed for its rally success, the new design replaces gasoline with electric propulsion and rear-wheel drive. Side air intakes, once for cooling the engine, now serve as ducts for battery management. The smooth, sculpted exterior takes cues from the original’s athletic stance but trades ornamentation for clean, aerodynamic lines.
Modern technology plays a leading role in Švec’s design. Cameras replace traditional mirrors, and headlights are concealed behind sliding covers for improved aerodynamics. Škoda’s new “Tech-loop” lighting signature and illuminated badges front and rear hint at the brand’s evolving identity. Motorsport-inspired details — including a visible roll cage, flared fenders, and center-lock wheels — connect the concept to the 130 RS, the race-bred descendant of the 110 R.
Although Škoda has no current plans to produce the 110 R EV, the concept showcases how the company continues to draw from its 130-year legacy. The original 110 R, built from 1970 to 1980, symbolized Czechoslovakian engineering pride and laid the groundwork for Škoda’s motorsport triumphs.
By blending its rich history with a futuristic electric vision, Škoda’s reimagined 110 R serves as both tribute and roadmap — proof that the company’s classic DNA can thrive in an era defined by electrification and innovation.
