Six-Model Mercedes ‘Silver Star Collection’

A carefully assembled group of six Mercedes-Benz cars, spanning nearly six decades of the brand’s performance history, is set to cross the auction block at RM Sotheby’s annual Paris sale early next year. Known as “The Silver Star Collection,” the lineup brings together some of the most sought-after road cars ever produced by the German automaker, all sourced from a single, unnamed collector.

The auction house has not disclosed the identity of the collector, but the selection reflects a focused approach rather than broad accumulation. Each car represents a high point in Mercedes-Benz sports car development, from the immediate post-war era through the modern supercar age. Together, they form a snapshot of how performance, design, and technology evolved under the three-pointed star.

Leading the collection is a pair of Mercedes-Benz 300 SL models that bookend the production run of the legendary series. The first is a 1954 300 SL Gullwing finished in White Grey with a beige-green checkered interior. As one of the earliest examples produced, it carries a pre-sale estimate between $1.45 million and $2.05 million. At the opposite end of the timeline is a 1962 300 SL Roadster, finished in Fire Engine Red over cream leather, estimated to sell for $1.4 million to $1.75 million. The Gullwing is among the first 167 built, while the Roadster is one of the final 182 examples.

Rounding out the classic portion of the collection is a 1969 280 SL “Pagoda.” Finished in factory-correct Grey Blue Metallic and retaining its numbers-matching 2.8-liter inline-six engine, the open-top sports car is estimated between $140,000 and $165,000.

The remaining three cars bring the collection into the modern era. The most prominent is a 2010 SLR McLaren Roadster finished in Crystal Laurite Silver. One of just 520 produced, the supercar carries an estimate of $385,000 to $500,000. It is joined by two 2013 Mercedes-AMG SLS models: an Iridium Silver coupe estimated at $245,000 to $305,000, and an Obsidian Black roadster expected to sell for $210,000 to $270,000.

All six vehicles will be offered individually during RM Sotheby’s Paris auction, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Salles du Carrousel within the Louvre Palace. The sale places some of Mercedes-Benz’s most recognizable performance cars on one stage, offering collectors a rare chance to acquire pieces from nearly every defining chapter of the brand’s sports car legacy.
