A stunning example of one of the rarest colors to leave Conner Avenue is about to cross the block. GAA Classic Car Auctions has consigned this 2001 Dodge Viper RT/10 for its November sale, and it's the kind of car that makes serious Mopar collectors sit up straight: a no-stripe, Race Yellow example, one of only 356 Yellow RT/10 Vipers ever built.
This particular Viper, chassis 1B3ER65E31V700751, presents with just an owner-stated 5,000 miles, though the title itself is mileage-exempt. Whatever the true figure, the car wears it well: original tires are still fitted, there are no modifications to speak of, and only three owners have signed the title in its 25 years on the road. For a car built to be driven hard, this one looks like it spent most of its life being admired instead.
Introduced for 1992, the Dodge Viper RT/10 was Chrysler's answer to the question of what would happen if you built a modern car with old-school muscle-car math: enormous displacement, minimal weight, and as few electronic nannies as possible. By 2001, the second-generation Viper had grown up slightly, with a smoother body, real exterior door handles, and glass side windows, but the formula underneath was unchanged. An 8.0-liter V10 sent 450 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual to the rear wheels alone, with no traction control and no antilock brakes to get in the way. It remains one of the last great analog sports cars, and a low-mile, unmolested example like this one is becoming harder to find every year.
The Viper crosses the block as Lot FR0135 at GAA's November 5-7 auction, running on Friday. Given the rarity of the color, the low ownership count, and the originality of the car, expect this one to draw plenty of attention from bidders looking for a Viper that's more time capsule than track toy.
