An exceptional single-owner collection of six Mercedes-Benz vehicles, spanning from postwar racing legends to modern performance icons, is set to headline RM Sotheby’s first international auction of the year in Paris. Known as the Silver Star collection, the group is expected to bring in more than $5 million when it crosses the block on Jan. 28.
Leading the collection are two examples of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, widely regarded as among the most desirable classic cars ever built. One is a 1954 coupe from the model’s first year of production and one of only 167 produced that year. Originally delivered to New York, the car arrived finished in white-gray with a green-beige checkered interior before later returning to Germany. It underwent a restoration in 2016 and now wears a silver exterior with a red interior. The car is estimated to sell for as much as $2 million.
The second Gullwing is a 1962 300 SL Roadster, expected to bring between $1.4 million and $1.8 million. That car retains its original red exterior over a cream interior and was initially delivered to England.
A modern counterpart to Mercedes’ historic racing lineage is also included. A 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster, one of just 520 produced, is estimated to sell for up to $558,000. Powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter AMG V8, the convertible represents the evolution of Mercedes’ Sport Light Racing philosophy, developed in collaboration with McLaren. The car is finished in silver with black interior upholstery and rides on distinctive 19-inch turbine-style wheels.
The collection also features two 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG models, both powered by naturally aspirated V8 engines and featuring the brand’s signature gullwing design. The SLS AMG Coupe, finished in silver over black, carries an estimate of up to $341,000. A matching SLS AMG Roadster, finished in black over black, is expected to bring as much as $305,000. Each shows approximately 3,700 miles.
Rounding out the group is a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL “Pagoda,” restored between 2014 and 2016 to factory-correct Grey Blue Metallic over blue leather. Originally delivered to the United States, the convertible was later converted to European specifications and is powered by a straight-six engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It is estimated to sell for up to $164,500.
Together, the Silver Star collection represents a concentrated showcase of Mercedes-Benz design, engineering, and performance across decades, all offered from a single owner at one Paris auction.
