Dodge’s most powerful muscle cars duel at the Vegas strip—yet it's a modified Hellcat that delivers the night's quickest run.
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway turned into a Mopar-only battleground as Dodge’s most powerful muscle cars went head-to-head in a series of dragstrip showdowns, with the surprise winner emerging not from the Demon 170 ranks—but from a modern legend known as the Black Ghost.
The evening’s races, captured by the Wheels YouTube channel, featured a lineup of Dodge Charger and Challenger models, including several of the brand’s swan song “Last Call” editions. Absent from the quarter-mile action were any Ford or Chevrolet rivals, making for a rare all-Dodge affair.
The night began with a dramatic clash between a white-and-black 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 and a burgundy Charger SRT Hellcat. While the Hellcat was given a head start, it was quickly overtaken by the E85-fed Demon 170, which laid down a 10.17-second run at the strip, compared to the Charger’s slower 12.38.
But the real showstopper came when a modified 2023 Challenger SRT Hellcat Black Ghost—piloted by the well-known Mopar dragstrip figure "Demonology"—lined up against a green Charger. With a blistering 8.69-second pass at 161 mph, the Black Ghost became the fastest car of the evening, outpacing even the Demon 170.
That record didn’t go unchallenged, though. In the final bout, two Demon 170s—one white, one purple—faced off in a wheelie-filled duel. The white Challenger edged out the purple with a 9.28-second pass versus 9.79, further proving the importance of driver skill when managing over 1,000 horsepower on the strip.
With Demon 170s officially out of production, these events highlight the continuing legacy of Dodge’s muscle cars and the competitive spirit that keeps them racing long after leaving the factory.
So, is brute force enough, or does experience still rule the strip?
