Carroll Shelby's original GT350 was built to satisfy SCCA rules for the B Production class, and it turned the Mustang into an instant legend in the process. Shelby built 562 GT350s for 1965, including 34 GT350R race cars, and nearly 2,400 more followed for 1966, yet demand for the real thing still outpaces supply, which is why tribute builds like this one have carved out their own following among enthusiasts.
Based on a genuine 1966 Mustang fastback, this build swaps in a 351ci Windsor V8 that's been bored and stroked to roughly 396ci, running forged flat-top pistons, RHS aluminum cylinder heads, an MSD distributor, and a Cobra-style oval air cleaner, all backed by a T5 five-speed manual and a Ford 8-inch rear axle. Chassis upgrades include a Monte Carlo bar, polished export brace components, chrome shock tower tops, and front disc brakes sourced from a 1971 Mustang Mach 1.
Now listed on Hagerty Marketplace, the fastback wears white paint with red LeMans and rocker stripes plus GT350R and Cobra badging, an aftermarket grille with center fog lamps, and a hood scoop, while the red-trimmed interior features Pony bucket seats, a wood-rim Shelby-style steering wheel, and a custom center console. The seller has owned the car since February 2019, and the listing is represented by a Broad Arrow Auctions specialist who has personally driven and photographed the car; a few paint chips and older tires are noted as imperfections, and it comes with a clean North Carolina title in the current owner's name.
Bidding is live now, with the auction closing on Tuesday, July 21. View the full listing and place a bid here.
