Two Old Porsche Cayennes Sent On A Patagonia Trek

This sounds like a fun adventure…

Porsche is flexing its muscle after Stefan Bogner of Curves magazine decided to take two first-generation Cayennes on an epic road trip through Patagonia. Considering it’s one of the most remote parts of the world and the crossovers aren’t exactly spring chickens at this point, the trek sounds like quite the little adventure.

Learn about the murder of a Porsche tuner here.

The journey stretched over 2,175 miles, which even on paved highways is quite the distance to travel for any trip. As you might suspect, both vehicles had been outfitted with some off-road equipment, including wheels, roof racks, and a rooftop tent. However, the 2009 and 2010 Cayennes both had over 80,000 miles on the odometer, so not many people would’ve trusted them in those types of conditions.

As you can see from the photos, Patagonia is quite the picturesque area with plenty of mountains, rivers, trees, and wide open landscape. To tackle all that, including rough and unpaved roads, the two Porsches had at their disposal 290-horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque via the 3.6-liter V6 engines. That doesn’t sound like much these days, and it isn’t, but that kind of power was sufficient for pulling the crossovers through tough conditions all the way to the finish.

Just keep in mind the Cayenne with its all-wheel-drive system has been tested like this before. It famously competed in the Trans-Syberia Rally which stretches from Berlin to Lake Baikal in Russia in 2006 and 2008. With over 6,200 miles of rugged terrain under its belt, Porsche’s crossover proved it can hang with the best in such conditions.

Challenges and obstacles abounded for both vehicles. For example, despite it being summer in Patagonia, frigid waters, cutting winds, and cold rainstorms were constants.
