A modified 1993 Geo Tracker LSi outfitted with a Camso track system and a range of off-road upgrades is now being offered for sale, turning the compact SUV into an unusual all-terrain machine.
Originally designed as a lightweight and affordable sport utility vehicle, the Geo Tracker gained attention in the late 1980s and early 1990s for combining compact dimensions with genuine off-road capability. The example now listed for sale adds a dramatic twist to that formula by replacing its traditional wheels with a Camso track system valued at nearly $7,500.
The 1993 model is part of the Tracker’s first generation, which debuted for the 1989 model year as a joint venture between General Motors and Suzuki. Built by CAMI Automotive at its plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, the vehicle shared most of its engineering with the Suzuki Sidekick. Early examples were initially imported from Japan while production ramped up in Canada.
Sold through General Motors’ Geo brand, the Tracker was aimed at younger buyers seeking an affordable SUV with practical running costs and light-truck capability. Unlike many modern compact crossovers, the Tracker used traditional body-on-frame construction and featured a part-time four-wheel-drive system with a dual-range transfer case, giving it authentic off-road credentials.
The vehicle currently listed for sale started life as a two-door Tracker LSi equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive. It has since been transformed with a Camso track system mounted to the original hubs using lug nuts, retaining the factory front disc and rear drum brake setup.
The track units include built-in reduction gears and anti-rotation arms that significantly increase traction and ground contact, allowing the small SUV to travel more easily across snow, mud, sand, and other challenging terrain.
Additional modifications include a two-inch suspension lift, custom front and rear bumpers, skid plates, and KC HiLiTES auxiliary lights. The vehicle also features a Badland winch, an air intake snorkel, and a cargo rack mounted at the rear alongside storage canisters and a Hitchfire grille connected to the hitch receiver.
The exterior received a repaint in 2024, finished in blue and pink with retro-inspired graphics on the hood and sides. For conventional road use, the sale also includes five 15-inch steel wheels fitted with Hankook tires.
Inside, the cabin features gray and blue cloth upholstery with front bucket seats and a rear bench. The interior was refreshed in 2024 with new carpeting and sound-deadening insulation. Modern additions include a Pioneer touchscreen head unit, a rearview camera, aftermarket speakers, and upgraded pedals and floor mats. A winch control switch is mounted near the steering wheel.
Despite facing criticism during its production years over rollover risks and safety ratings, the Geo Tracker has developed a loyal following among enthusiasts. Owners have continued to praise the model’s simplicity and off-road ability, with many surviving examples remaining popular decades after production ended.
