Ford Reopens Mustang GTD Application Window, Offering Second Chance to Buyers

Ford is giving prospective buyers another opportunity to secure one of its most exclusive performance cars, announcing plans to reopen applications for the Mustang GTD later this year.

The automaker initially launched the application process in April 2024 for the high-performance Mustang GTD, a model priced from $325,000. The response drew thousands of applicants, far exceeding available production capacity, leaving many enthusiasts without an allocation when decisions were finalized in late August.

Now, Ford is set to reopen the application window on April 17, a date that carries historical significance for the brand. The Mustang was first introduced to the public on April 17, 1964, at the New York World’s Fair. The reopening aligns with the model’s 62nd anniversary, linking the latest iteration of the Mustang lineage to its original debut.

The renewed application process will cover multiple future production years, with Ford indicating that orders will extend across the 2027, 2028 and 2029 model years. The move signals a longer production timeline for the GTD than initially expected, ensuring that the model will remain part of Ford’s lineup through at least the end of the decade.

For those selected, Ford plans to provide a tailored ownership experience through its Mustang GTD Concierge team. Buyers will work directly with the team to finalize specifications and navigate the purchasing process, reflecting the exclusivity of the vehicle.

Ford has not yet released full details for the upcoming application cycle but expects to share additional information in the coming weeks. Interested buyers can currently register their interest online and will receive notifications ahead of the application window opening, along with updates throughout the process.

If the timeline mirrors the original rollout, applications will remain open for approximately one month, with final selections expected by late summer. Previous applicants may not need to start from scratch, as earlier submissions are expected to remain on file, requiring only updates before resubmission.

The Mustang GTD represents one of the most ambitious versions of the iconic model, and the reopening of applications offers another chance for enthusiasts to compete for a limited spot behind the wheel.
