A highly sought-after piece of American muscle is now up for bids at the Raleigh Classic Car Auction in Zebulon, North Carolina. The 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 Convertible, one of only 232 produced that year, represents the pinnacle of Buick’s muscle car era performance. With bidding already surpassing $49,000 and several days remaining before the November 12 close, interest in this rare triple-black example is heating up.

Raleigh Classic Auctions, known for its curated selection of low-mile, highly original cars, has included this GS 455 Stage 1 in its October Special lineup of 28 premium vehicles. The car is offered from The Raleigh Classic Collection and shows just 7,959 miles since its restoration, a figure believed to be accurate according to accompanying documentation.

When introduced in 1970, the GS 455 Stage 1 stunned the performance world. Motor Trend famously recorded quarter-mile times of 13.3 seconds at 105 mph, proving that Buick’s comfort-oriented reputation could coexist with true muscle car dominance. Beneath its Regal Black exterior lies a rebuilt, date-code-correct 455 cubic-inch V8 producing 400 horsepower and 507 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. Power routes through a three-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmission and limited-slip differential, while factory equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, and an optional gauge cluster.

This particular car is documented by Sloan reports and restoration receipts. Its chassis and trim tags confirm the correct Flint, Michigan build and triple-black color combination, one of only two known automatic-equipped convertibles configured this way. The seller notes the car has been carefully maintained as a dependable driver, tuned for modern 93-octane fuel, and fully functional from top to radio.

Will this rare Buick’s mix of power, provenance, and comfort make it one of the auction’s top performers? See it here.
