A distinctive 1965 Ford Mustang fastback, believed to be the only example finished in factory-ordered Marlin Blue, is attracting strong interest as bidding continues in an online auction set to close in the coming days.
The fastback, currently bid past $30,000, stands apart due to its reported origins as part of a promotional effort by a Texas dealership. According to the listing, the car was specially ordered in its unique blue finish for a red, white, and blue-themed campaign, making it a rare configuration among early Mustang production models.
Originally equipped with a C-code 289 cubic-inch V8 engine and automatic transmission, the Mustang has undergone a series of restorations and modifications over the years. A major refurbishment in the late 2000s introduced both cosmetic and mechanical upgrades aimed at enhancing performance and drivability. These changes included the addition of power steering, front disc brakes, and suspension modifications such as a Shelby-style drop.
The engine was rebuilt during that period and features an aluminum intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, and updated ignition components. Cooling improvements include an aluminum radiator paired with an electric fan. The drivetrain was also upgraded with a four-speed automatic transmission and a rear differential featuring a 3.55 gear ratio.
Externally, the car retains its signature Marlin Blue finish, complemented by replacement trim, a GT-style rear valance, and period-style wheels fitted with redline tires. The vehicle’s history includes a front-end accident in the mid-2000s, after which it was repaired as part of the restoration process.
