LS-Powered 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 Coupe Combines Vintage Muscle With Modern V8 Performance

Heavily upgraded 1967 Firebird 400 coupe features LS swap, six-speed manual, custom suspension, and recent restoration in Tyrol Blue.

A classic muscle car has been given a modern heartbeat with this 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 coupe, now powered by a late-model 5.3-liter LS V8 and six-speed manual transmission. The extensively restored and modified Firebird blends Pontiac’s iconic first-year pony car styling with 21st-century drivability and power.

Originally equipped with a 400ci V8 and designed to take on the Mustang and Camaro, this Firebird now features a 355-horsepower L84 V8 sourced from a 2019 GMC Yukon. Mated to a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed from a Camaro SS and backed by a McLeod clutch and Quick Time bellhousing, the drivetrain transformation is comprehensive. A custom driveshaft and Flowmaster exhaust with cutouts deliver both performance and muscle car sound.

The build extends far beyond the engine bay. A four-link rear suspension with QA1 coilovers, tubular front control arms, and upgraded disc brakes on all four corners provide modern handling and stopping power. The 10-bolt rear end, sourced from a Chevy Blazer ZR2, features a 3.73 gear ratio and limited-slip traction.

Finished in fresh Tyrol Blue paint applied in March 2025, the Firebird retains its classic silhouette with Rally II wheels and dual hood scoops bearing "400" badging. Inside, cream vinyl bucket seats, a ZL1-sourced console, and retrofitted Bosch gauges deliver a clean, custom feel. The interior was overhauled with new carpet, door cards, headliner, and seals for a fresh presentation.

While the car lacks wipers and a radio, its performance and restoration quality make it a standout. With only about 1,500 miles on the drivetrain and receipts included, this Nevada-kept Firebird offers turnkey muscle with modern reliability — and all the charisma of a ‘60s icon. See it here.
