A well-preserved 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS with just over 25,000 miles and single-family ownership is attracting growing interest as it approaches the final days of an online auction. Located in Garden City, Michigan, the full-size performance sedan has reached a high bid of $17,000 with several days remaining before the sale concludes on April 15.
The 1996 model year marked the end of Chevrolet’s B-body performance sedan era, closing a chapter for rear-wheel-drive, V8-powered four-door cars under the brand’s lineup. Built on the Caprice platform, the Impala SS combined practicality with performance, featuring a sport-tuned suspension, limited-slip differential, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
At the heart of the car is a 5.7-liter LT1 V8 engine producing 260 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The setup delivered strong straight-line performance while maintaining everyday usability, a balance that helped define the model’s appeal during its production run. Chevrolet built more than 41,000 units for 1996, offering the car in a limited palette that included Dark Cherry Metallic, the color worn by this example.
Originally delivered through a Michigan dealership, the car has remained within the same family since new. It features gray leather upholstery with embroidered headrests, power-adjustable front seats, and a range of factory equipment including air conditioning, cruise control, and a Delco CD stereo.
