One-off 2012 McLaren MP4-12C originally owned and configured by F1 legend Lewis Hamilton goes to auction.
A striking 2012 McLaren MP4-12C once owned and personally configured by seven-time Formula One World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton is headed to the auction block at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este sale on May 25, 2025.

Offered by Broad Arrow Auctions, this MP4-12C—chassis No. SBM11AAB4CW000132—represents more than just McLaren’s first production supercar of the modern era. Finished in Volcano Red with carbon fiber detailing and a bespoke Harissa Red and Black Alcantara interior, this particular car served as Hamilton’s personal road car following its delivery in March 2012.

Originally registered in Monaco, where Hamilton resided during his tenure with the McLaren F1 team, the car’s significance is matched by its low usage, showing just 8,938 kilometers on the odometer. This is the first time the car has been offered publicly, making it a rare opportunity for collectors and Formula One fans alike.
With its carbon-fiber MonoCell chassis, 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 delivering 592 horsepower, and McLaren’s innovative “pre-cog” seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the MP4-12C offered a groundbreaking mix of speed, handling, and comfort. Hamilton’s own version also includes the first-year “door swipe” entry system—eliminated in later models.

Beyond its celebrity provenance, the car is an important marker in McLaren Automotive’s history. Developed after a 15-year gap since the iconic McLaren F1, the MP4-12C reestablished the brand as a serious player in the supercar world. Hamilton and his then-teammate Jenson Button were key promotional figures during its launch, with their configurations later turned into toy models.

Offered with full documentation and in near-pristine condition, this McLaren presents a rare fusion of supercar engineering and Formula One heritage—directly from one of the sport’s greatest champions. Auction estimates range from €175,000 to €225,000. See it here.
