Legendary 1976 Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 Set for Broad Arrow Zoute Auction

Rally-bred 1976 Lancia Stratos HF with period wins and iconic Pirelli livery heads to auction October 10 in Belgium.

Broad Arrow Auctions will present a 1976 Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 specification rally car at its Zoute Concours Auction in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, on Oct. 10, 2025. Estimated to fetch between €600,000 and €800,000, the car represents one of the most celebrated machines in rally history, with extensive period competition use and eligibility for premier historic events.

Built from the radical Marcello Gandini design that stunned the 1971 Turin Motor Show, the Stratos became the world’s first purpose-built rally car. With Ferrari’s 2.4-liter Dino V6 at its core, the model went on to dominate the sport, securing three consecutive World Rally Championship titles from 1974 to 1976. Even decades later, its striking shapes and iconic liveries remain touchstones of motorsport design.

This chassis, number 829AR0001581, was first registered in Padova, Italy, in 1976 and converted to full Group 4 specification the following year. It began its competition life at the 1978 Rallye Internazionale della Lana and was later driven by Massimo Casotto, achieving a series of strong finishes. In 1980, Franco Leoni acquired the car and campaigned it throughout the 1982 Italian Rally Championship, recording victories at Rally Valli Imperiesi and Rally Alto Appennino Bolognese along with multiple podium finishes.

The car’s career stretched beyond the factory years, highlighted by a run at Silverstone with rally champion Björn Waldegård in 1998. More recently, it appeared at the Tour de Corse Historique in 2015 and 2016, wearing its striking black, white, and red Pirelli livery. Since 2018, it has been road registered in France and supported by extensive documentation, including homologation papers and period photographs.

For collectors, this Stratos offers more than provenance—it carries the ability to compete once again in celebrated historic rallies such as the Tour Auto and Tour de Corse. Broad Arrow calls it nothing less than a living emblem of Lancia’s motorsport legacy. See it here.
