Iconic 1970 Jaguar E-Type Now Up For Auction

The E-Type is the model that put Jaquar on the map. This revolutionary British sports car had competing supercar manufacturers admiring how beautiful it was and offered performance to match.

With 264-horsepower and a curvaceous body, the Jaguar XK-E was a powerful contender in the Europe sports car market from 1961 through 1975. Many changes were implemented ove the course of production though the basics stayed the same. Starting out with just a coupe and convertible models, a 2+2 option was added to the coupe bodystyle. Later, U.S. emission laws inspired a change in carburetors and a subsequent reduction in power output. Despite some changes not being well received, the E-Type has managed to maintain its status of being one of the most admired British sports cars of all time.

This 1970 Jaguar XK-E 2-door Roadster convertible is 1 of just 6,732 produced. Built by Gran Turismo, the car features a green finish over a black leather interior. Under the hood is a 258.4-cid inline 6-cylinder double cam engine topped with 3-SU carburetors and paired to a 6-speed manual Synchromesh gearbox transmission. Providing the best of both worlds this car features all of the enhancements from over the E-Types production without the loss of power caused by changing emission laws.

In 1970 this car carried a base price of $5,900 and today it is once again for sale, this time through Vicari Auctions. When you take inflation into consideration, this car's original base price was equivalent to just over $40,000. However, this car will almost certainly sell for much more than that.
