Ends Today: Restored 1934 Ford Model 40 Deluxe Sedan Crosses the Raleigh Classic Block Without Reserve

A meticulously restored 1934 Ford Model 40 Deluxe Sedan, featuring its original flathead V8, sells today with no reserve.

When the 1934 Ford Model 40 debuted, it wasn’t just another car—it was a statement of resilience. Unveiled during the depths of the Great Depression, this Ford represented a triumph of design and engineering that helped restore faith in the American automobile industry. Now, one beautifully restored example is set to cross the auction block without reserve today at the Raleigh Classic’s September Special in Zebulon, North Carolina.

The 1934 model year introduced refined styling with a more aerodynamic grille, curved fenders, and chrome accents that defined Ford’s prewar elegance. Power came from the 221-cubic-inch flathead V8 engine—producing 85 horsepower—an engineering marvel that gave the lightweight sedan both reliability and surprising performance. It’s no wonder even notorious outlaw Clyde Barrow wrote to Henry Ford praising the car’s speed and endurance.

This particular 1934 Ford Deluxe Sedan is notable for its authenticity and attention to detail. Retaining its original engine, transmission, and chassis components, it reflects the craftsmanship that made early Fords legendary. The restoration began with a rust-free foundation and incorporated many rare, original ’34 Ford parts—making it a standout among surviving examples.

Optioned with the desirable Columbia overdrive rear end, this Deluxe also features wind wings, an ashtray radio, dual dash gauges, and working fog lights. A locking spare tire with the original keys, a woodgrain dash, and a three-speed manual floor-shift transmission complete the period-correct details.

Paint imperfections on the A-pillar and small chrome chips are among the few signs of use. Overall, this is a finely restored example of one of Ford’s most historically important cars—an all-steel survivor from the height of prewar innovation.

Offered from The Raleigh Classic Collection with no reserve, this 1934 Ford Model 40 Deluxe Sedan is an opportunity to own a rolling symbol of American determination and style. See it here.
