A rare 1970 Plymouth Superbird, powered by its original 426 cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine, is scheduled to be auctioned this November. The two-door Alpine White coupe is one of only 135 HEMI Superbirds produced in 1970 and among just 36 known examples built with an automatic transmission.

The car’s authenticity is supported by extensive documentation, including the original Chrysler Corporation broadcast sheet, window sticker, Chrysler Registry certification, and a GTS report. The vehicle also retains its numbers-matching drivetrain, featuring the legendary 426 HEMI rated at 425 horsepower. It’s paired with a Torqueflite automatic transmission that has been rebuilt to HEMI specifications and a Sure Grip rear differential with 3.55 gears.

Repainted in its correct Alpine White finish in 2000, the car presents a clean, period-correct appearance. Inside, it features a black bench seat interior trimmed with silver piping and includes Rallye instrumentation, a Tic-Toc-Tach, and a Music Master radio. Power steering and front disc brakes complement its performance credentials, while Rallye wheels wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas GT tires complete the factory look.

The odometer reads mileage exempt under its current North Carolina title, though a prior Florida title lists 25,000 actual miles. Service records accompany the sale, further documenting its preservation and care.

With its limited production, factory HEMI power, and verified provenance, this Superbird represents one of the most desirable muscle cars of its era. For collectors seeking an authentic example of Plymouth’s NASCAR-inspired aero legend, this Alpine White Superbird will likely be among the highlights of the November auction lineup.
