Restored red-on-black C2 Corvette Sting Ray packs a period-correct 427 V8 and vintage flair with modern reliability.
A restored example of one of America’s most celebrated sports cars, a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible, is now drawing attention for all the right reasons. Refinished in eye-catching red with matching redline tires and a sleek black leather interior, this vintage icon boasts the heart of a true muscle car — a big-block 427 V8.

Originally delivered in Sunfire Yellow, this second-generation Corvette (chassis 194676S112829) was produced in June 1966 at GM’s St. Louis plant and has since been restored with a focus on both performance and aesthetics. Its L36 427-cubic inch V8, period-correct and dyno-tested at 373.6 horsepower and 447.8 lb-ft of torque, sits proudly under the long, contoured hood, paired with a Muncie four-speed manual transmission — the only gearbox offered for this potent engine in ’66.

Introduced just a year after the debut of the big-block Corvette lineup, the 1966 model represented a turning point in American performance. Corvette’s engineers, led by the legendary Zora Arkus-Duntov, emphasized agility with fully independent suspension, low center of gravity, and now-standard four-wheel disc brakes. This example is also equipped with power steering, tinted Soft-Ray glass, and a black vinyl factory hardtop, making it suitable for spirited drives or top-down weekend cruising.

While this Corvette has been refinished in a color different from its original factory shade, its attention to detail and preserved authenticity remain clear. Two minor paint cracks on the hood and a small tear in the shifter boot are the only noted imperfections.
Still, its combination of heritage, power, and presence makes this C2 Corvette a standout example of GM’s mid-century muscle excellence — a true “Flight 427” that’s ready for takeoff in the hands of a new enthusiast.
