Track-Prepared 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo Built for PCA Competition Offered Without Reserve

A heavily modified 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo built for competitive track use is attracting attention as it heads to auction without reserve, offering enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire a purpose-built Porsche Club of America race car.

Representing the final year of 944 Turbo production, the car reflects the evolution of Porsche’s front-engine, transaxle-era performance platform. Known for its balanced handling characteristics and near-perfect weight distribution, the 944 Turbo became a popular choice among amateur racers and club-level competitors. This example has been further developed to compete in Porsche Club of America SP3-class racing and features an extensive list of performance, safety, and chassis upgrades designed for track duty.

The car is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and limited-slip differential. Performance modifications include an ECU chip tune, a Clubgate wastegate, an aftermarket throttle position sensor, a K&N air filter, a custom three-inch exhaust system, and a lightweight Odyssey battery equipped with a remote disconnect.

Suspension and chassis improvements are extensive, highlighted by MOTON three-way adjustable coilovers, Hyperco springs, billet control arms, Wrightwood Racing front suspension components, camber plates, anti-roll bars, and a quick-ratio steering rack. The braking system features the M030 package, GT3-style cooling scoops, and high-performance brake fluid intended to withstand demanding track conditions.

Finished in gold beneath a removable Rothmans-inspired white-and-blue vinyl wrap, the exterior has been modified with aerodynamic components including a front splitter, air dam, rear wing, fiberglass hood, and cooling enhancements integrated into the front fascia. Additional race-focused features include front and rear tow hooks, a manual headlight conversion, and lightweight Plexiglass panels for the windshield and rear hatch.

Inside, the cabin has been transformed into a competition-oriented environment. Recaro racing seats, a full roll cage, racing harnesses, a MOMO steering wheel with quick-release hub, a Motorsport shifter, data acquisition equipment, a fire extinguisher, and a window net are among the equipment installed. Much of the original interior has been stripped to reduce weight and improve track performance.

According to the seller, significant maintenance has been completed, including fuel system servicing, brake work, replacement engine mounts, power steering line replacement, tire replacement, and ignition-related maintenance. The vehicle currently shows approximately 63,600 miles.

The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report begins in 1995 and documents registration history in Ohio and Michigan. Acquired by the current ownership in April 2023, the Porsche has undergone additional preparation for racing use and is offered with a Porsche Club of America log book, historic license plates, assorted spare parts, two sets of keys, and a car cover.

While the car remains race-ready, several imperfections are noted, including cosmetic wear associated with track use, evidence of prior repair on the passenger-side quarter panel, wrinkles in portions of the vinyl wrap, a cracked taillight lens, a cracked front turn signal lens, an inoperative battery voltage gauge, and interior wear on frequently used surfaces.

With its final-year production status, proven track-focused upgrades, and Porsche Club of America competition credentials, this 944 Turbo stands as a compelling offering for drivers seeking an established platform for club racing or high-performance track events. See it here.
