One-Owner, 8K-Mile 2003 Corvette 50th Anniversary Convertible Is a C5 Time Capsule

When Chevrolet wanted to mark a half-century of America's sports car, it didn't reinvent the Corvette so much as dress it for the occasion. The result was the 2003 50th Anniversary Edition, and this Anniversary Red convertible, now listed on Hagerty Marketplace, shows exactly why these cars have become such desirable C5s. It's a one-owner example that has covered just under 8,200 miles since new, making it about as close to a factory-fresh anniversary 'Vette as you're likely to find more than two decades on.

The C5 generation, built from 1997 through 2004, was the car that truly modernized the Corvette. Its hydroformed frame gave the chassis serious rigidity, which mattered most in droptop form, and a rear-mounted transaxle helped balance the weight. Under the long hood sits the 5.7-liter LS1 V8, rated at 350 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, which was enough to send the C5 to 60 mph in about five seconds. This particular car routes that power through a four-speed automatic with overdrive, the easygoing choice for buyers who wanted a relaxed grand tourer rather than a stick-shift weekend toy.

What sets an anniversary car apart is the RPO 1SC package, and it was far more than a sticker job. Buyers got the exclusive Anniversary Red metallic paint, a Shale leather interior with embroidered headrests and special badging, a Shale convertible top, and color-matched aluminum wheels. Just as significant, Chevrolet made its new Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension standard on these cars, giving them an electronically adjustable damper setup that was genuinely cutting-edge for 2003. The anniversary tie-in went all the way to Indianapolis, where the Corvette paced the 2002 Indy 500.

This car is finished in that signature Anniversary Red over Shale leather and is said to be one of only 7,547 convertibles to receive the 50th Anniversary treatment that year. Equipment highlights include a head-up display, telescoping steering column, memory package, auto-dimming mirrors, and automatic headlights, with the LS1 backed by the four-speed automatic and a fully independent suspension with four-wheel disc brakes. The 17-inch wheels currently wear Goodyear tires.

Offered on dealer consignment through Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa, the convertible comes with a clean CARFAX report and a clean Florida title. As with any low-mileage survivor, prospective bidders will want to study the photos closely, but for a collector chasing a milestone Corvette with single-owner history and a tiny odometer reading, this Anniversary Red C5 makes a compelling case. The auction is live now on Hagerty Marketplace.
