Produced from 1976 through 1986, the Jeep CJ-7 stretched the CJ-5's wheelbase by 10 inches, delivering better road manners and more interior room without sacrificing the go-anywhere character that made Jeep famous. It's remained one of the most accessible entry points into vintage off-roading, and this particular truck leans into that reputation with a healthy dose of period-correct modification.
Listed at no reserve on Hagerty Marketplace, this 1979 CJ-7 has been refinished in red with a black hardtop over black vinyl upholstery, and swapped from its original 258ci six-cylinder to a carbureted AMC 304ci V8 backed by a four-speed manual and two-speed transfer case. The seller, who has owned the truck for about three years, reports the engine swap and repaint were both done in 2023, and the Jeep also wears a suspension lift, 15-inch aftermarket wheels on Nexen Roadian MTX tires, an aftermarket steering wheel, center console, and updated stereo.
The listing is candid about its condition, noting cosmetic imperfections consistent with age, a partially unfinished interior with wear on some panels, some rust in several areas, and wear on the wheels. It comes with a full-size spare and the black hardtop, and is offered with a clean Oregon title in the seller's name.
