LS3-Swapped 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Attracts Bidding in Texas Auction

A heavily modified 1966 Chevrolet Corvette coupe is drawing steady attention as bidding continues with three days remaining in an online auction based in Sugar Land, Texas. The current high bid stands at $41,400, with 16 bids placed and nearly 6,800 views recorded, signaling strong interest in restomodded second-generation Corvettes.

The 1966 model year falls within the celebrated C2 generation, a period widely regarded for blending dramatic styling with advanced chassis engineering. Introduced in 1963, the second-generation Corvette featured a lower, wider profile, pronounced fender lines, and a distinctive coupe roofline with a broad rear window and V-shaped tail. Beneath the sculpted bodywork, the platform was engineered for performance, incorporating a rigid chassis, a low center of gravity, and an independent rear suspension designed to improve both handling and ride quality.

Originally, 1966 buyers could select from a range of small-block and big-block V8 engines paired with manual or automatic transmissions. In this example, the original drivetrain has been replaced with a modern Chevrolet Performance LS3 crate engine rated at 525 horsepower. The 6.2-liter V8 is paired with a TKX five-speed manual transmission, a combination intended to deliver improved power, drivability, and efficiency compared with period-correct powertrains.

The car has been refinished in Porsche Sapphire Blue, a departure from its original Nassau Blue finish. Additional exterior upgrades include Keen Parts headers feeding side-exit exhaust pipes with mufflers, LED headlights, and 15-inch Rally wheels wrapped in 255/60R15 BFGoodrich tires. An updated four-wheel disc brake system further modernizes the driving experience.

Inside, the Corvette features a dark blue vinyl interior with matching carpet and upgraded materials. The dashboard has been fitted with Dakota Digital instrumentation, including a 160-mph speedometer, tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. A retrofit AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo with a hatch-mounted speaker box provides modern audio capability.

The seller reports acquiring the car in 2019, with the LS3 conversion and related modifications completed in 2022. Servicing includes a comprehensive brake job performed in August 2024.

Noted imperfections include paint chips around the headlight bezels and center console, a worn and cracking dashboard, an adjustable driver-side mirror, and clutch springs requiring attention. The Corvette is offered with a clean Texas title and includes a 1966 Corvette Owner’s Guide as bidding continues.
