Low-Mileage 1998 Dodge Viper GT2 Championship Edition Heads to Auction

A highly sought-after piece of American performance history is attracting attention as a rare 1998 Dodge Viper GTS GT2 Championship Edition heads to auction. With only 1,000 miles recorded since new, the nearly untouched example is generating strong interest among collectors and enthusiasts.

The Viper, first introduced in 1992, quickly became a defining symbol of 1990s American sports cars. Known for its aggressive styling and powerful V-10 engine, the model represented Dodge’s entry into the pure sports car segment. By 1998, the second-generation SRII version arrived, offering both the RT/10 roadster and the GTS coupe, the latter forming the foundation for Dodge’s racing success.

The GT2 Championship Edition was developed to celebrate the brand’s victory in the 1997 FIA GT Championship GT2 class. Designed as a road-going tribute to the race-winning car, the limited-production model featured enhancements in both performance and styling. Only 100 units were produced, making it one of the most exclusive Viper variants ever built.

The example currently up for auction is number 48 of the series and stands out with its distinctive appearance. Finished in Stone White with bold blue racing stripes, the car features race-inspired graphics and an aggressive aerodynamic package that includes a vented hood, side skirts and a prominent rear wing. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, further complementing its performance-oriented design.

Inside, the cabin reflects its motorsport inspiration with black leather bucket seats accented by blue inserts and red racing harnesses. Additional features include air conditioning and an Alpine CD stereo system, blending comfort with track-ready styling.

Power comes from an 8.0-liter V-10 engine rated at 460 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. This output exceeds that of the standard GTS and earlier RT/10 models, reinforcing its status as a top-tier variant.

With bidding already surpassing $110,000, well above its original price, the auction reflects growing demand for low-mileage, limited-production performance cars from the era.
