Classic 1991 BMW M5 Returns to Market With Low Mileage and Recent Service History

A 1991 BMW M5 from the E34 generation has surfaced in an online auction, drawing interest from enthusiasts as bidding activity begins to build. The performance sedan, located in Merrillan, Wisconsin, currently holds a top bid of $12,500 with more than a week remaining before the sale closes.

This example represents the first model year of the E34 M5 offered in the United States after a two-year absence, marking a significant return for BMW’s Motorsport division in the American market. Under the hood sits a 3.6-liter S38 inline-six engine, originally rated at 310 horsepower and paired exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission. The car also features hallmark performance components including a limited-slip differential and a sport-tuned chassis derived from the standard 5-Series platform.

Finished in Jet Black with a black leather interior, the sedan shows approximately 85,150 miles. Interior features include heated power sport seats, wood veneer trim, a sunroof, and automatic climate control. The vehicle rides on 17-inch M-System wheels with turbine-style covers, while exterior updates include AC Schnitzer side skirts and Euro-style projector headlights.

The current owner acquired the vehicle in 2022 after it reportedly spent nearly two decades with a previous owner. Since then, the car has undergone a series of maintenance updates, including suspension work, valve adjustments, fluid replacements, and installation of an aftermarket exhaust system. Additional modifications include upgraded shocks, springs, and audio equipment.

Despite its overall condition, the vehicle shows typical signs of age such as paint imperfections, minor interior wear, and some non-functioning instrument lighting. An illuminated ABS warning light and a sagging headliner are also noted.

The sale includes documentation such as an oil analysis report, service records, spare parts, and a clean vehicle history report, adding to the car’s appeal among collectors seeking a classic performance sedan with documented upkeep. See it here.
