2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Convertible Showcases Rare Dealer-Authorized Conversion

A customized 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible is drawing attention for its rare factory-authorized conversion and well-preserved condition, offering an unusual take on the modern American muscle car.

Originally produced as a coupe, this Challenger was converted into a convertible by Droptop Challenger, a Florida-based company authorized by Dodge to perform the specialized transformation. The company’s work was available through the Dodge dealer network, making the conversion a professional alternative to aftermarket modifications.

Transforming the coupe into a convertible involves extensive structural work. The process requires removing the roof and reinforcing the chassis to maintain rigidity. The conversion carries a significant price, estimated at about $25,000, reflecting the level of engineering required to maintain the car’s structural integrity and driving characteristics. The finished result is a professionally built convertible equipped with a power-operated canvas top.

The vehicle is finished in Torred exterior paint paired with a black convertible top. The interior features a custom two-tone design with black surfaces and red inserts, creating a sporty cabin that complements the bold exterior color. The interior retains its original dashboard and steering wheel while adding a modern Pioneer touchscreen head unit with auxiliary input, Bluetooth connectivity, HD radio and satellite capability.

This Challenger has been owned by an enthusiast since 2013 and has accumulated just under 53,000 miles. The vehicle has been garage-kept and remains in excellent condition inside and out. A clean vehicle history report indicates no accidents.

Additional features include five-spoke 20-inch chrome wheels fitted with BF Goodrich tires. The convertible top was replaced approximately two years ago and remains in near-new condition. The rear window is made of glass and includes a heating element for improved visibility in colder conditions.

Power comes from a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The car is reported to run and drive well, with a new battery installed last year and no known service needs.

Most convertible Challenger conversions were performed on higher-performance SRT8 or Hellcat models due to the cost of the process. As a result, examples based on the more accessible R/T platform are relatively uncommon, giving this vehicle a distinctive place among modern Challenger builds. See it here.
