1989 BMW M3 Features Upgraded 2.5-Liter Stroker Engine and Extensive Mechanical Refresh

A well-maintained 1989 BMW M3 is drawing attention among collectors and enthusiasts, combining the classic appeal of the E30 platform with extensive mechanical updates and performance upgrades.

Finished in Zinnoberrot Red over a black interior, the car shows 74,600 miles since new and retains several details valued by collectors. VIN tags remain intact across the body panels, and the original front and rear glass still carry VIN etching. These features help confirm the vehicle’s authenticity and originality, both important considerations in the increasingly sought-after E30 M3 market.

The car has been upgraded with a 2.5-liter stroker engine build, offering enhanced performance over the factory configuration. Supporting modifications include an EVO flywheel and EVO fuel injectors, along with a custom-tuned iGMoTiV chip paired with a brand-new engine control unit. The top end of the engine has also been rebuilt, featuring a machined cylinder head, new camshafts and lifters, valve adjustments and fresh valve seals. A new oil pump has been installed as part of the mechanical work.

Extensive servicing has recently been completed to ensure the car’s reliability and performance. Major components replaced or refurbished include a new clutch assembly, flywheel, throw-out bearing and pilot bearing. The alternator has been rebuilt, and new engine mounts have been installed.

The cooling system has been comprehensively refreshed with a new radiator and coolant hoses, along with additional cooling components. Brake system updates include rebuilt calipers paired with new rotors and pads. Additional work includes replacement of the brake booster, service to the master cylinder and installation of new ABS sensors. The vehicle has also undergone BMW’s Inspection II service.

Performance upgrades extend to a Supersprint stainless steel sport exhaust system, while the original exhaust system is included with the vehicle. Cosmetic refinements include refinished intake manifold and valve cover in OEM black and powder-coated wheels fitted with four new tires.

Additional maintenance includes new fog light lenses, ignition components, belts, bushings and sensors, along with replacement of the coolant expansion tank and washer system components. The suspension has been refreshed with new front strut mounts, stabilizer end links and a completed alignment.

With a clean vehicle history report and a clean Texas title, this E30 M3 represents a carefully maintained example of one of BMW’s most iconic performance models. See it here.
