1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS NASCAR Tribute Offered Without Reserve in Georgia

A modified 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS paying tribute to one of NASCAR’s most recognizable championship cars is currently being offered at auction without reserve, drawing attention from collectors and racing fans alike. Listed in Savannah, Georgia, the car is presented as a street-legal homage to Darrell Waltrip’s No. 11 Budweiser Chevrolet that dominated the Winston Cup Series during the mid-1980s.

The 1987 model year marked the final chapter for the fourth-generation Monte Carlo, a platform closely tied to stock car racing during its era. Chevrolet introduced the Monte Carlo SS in 1983 to meet demand for performance-oriented coupes with aggressive styling. By its final year, the SS featured aerodynamic bodywork, a distinctive Aero SS nose, rear spoiler, and bold graphics that aligned closely with NASCAR influence.

This example was transformed by Florida-based Street Legal Stock Car Tributes, which built the car to reflect Waltrip’s 1985 and 1986 championship-winning race cars. The exterior was refinished in a period-correct red and white paint scheme and hand-decorated with era-appropriate sponsor graphics, including Budweiser, Valvoline, and Kentucky Fried Chicken branding. A Winston Cup-style rear spoiler, blacked-out headlight screens, hood pins, side pipes, and racing-style wheels complete the race-inspired look.

Power comes from a factory 5.0-liter L69 High Output V8 equipped with a four-barrel carburetor, paired with a 700R4 four-speed overdrive automatic transmission. A 10-bolt rear differential with a 3.73:1 gear ratio handles power delivery. While modified visually, the car retains street-focused mechanicals and remains road legal.

Inside, the Monte Carlo features its original burgundy velour upholstery along with added motorsports-inspired elements. These include a non-functional roll bar, four-point Racequip harnesses, a driver-side safety net, auxiliary gauges, a B&M floor shifter, and NASCAR-themed trim pieces. Comfort features such as air conditioning converted to R134a refrigerant, cruise control, power accessories, and a JVC stereo system are also present.

The car is offered with an accident-free CARFAX history report, though it notes a possible odometer rollover consistent with five-digit odometer limitations of the era. Known cosmetic imperfections include minor paint chips, bumper scuffing, and interior overspray.

The auction is nearing its close with active bidding underway, and a Broad Arrow specialist is facilitating the transaction on behalf of the seller. See it here.
