Gearheads finally win one at the Oscars!

The Ford and Ferrari rivalry from the mid-'60s is a true story that has been told countless times, and it's one that never gets old. The historic feud between the two automotive legends was finally produced into a movie starring Matt Damon as the late Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale as driver Ken Miles. Ford vs. Ferrari just won two gold statuettes at the 92nd Academy Awards in Los Angeles as it took home multiple awards.

To make the moment even more special is the fact that a movie revolving around motorsports hasn't won an award since 1967. That was when the film Grand Prix won awards at the Oscars and at the 39th Academy Awards for Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing.

Directed by James Mangold, the film Ford v. Ferrari, named Le Mans '66 in the United Kingdom, follows the true story that revolves around American car designer Carroll Shelby and British driver Ken Miles. The two were sent out by Ford legends Henry Ford II and Lee Iacocca to build a GT40 as their weapon of choice to ultimately defeat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurace race in France back in 1966.

Ford v. Ferrari made its world debut on August 30th, 2019 at the Telluride Film Festival, and the Century Fox's film had its opening day in theaters in the United States on November 15th. Grossing an impressive $223.6 million, the movie received rave reviews from critics for the acting and racing scenes.

Considering the storyline and the cast, the movie was destined to be great. Currently, the movie is available to buy and rent. Although, this may be a movie you may want to purchase to add to the collection, and it's even a movie that non-car people can appreciate.
