Dodge Celebrates 50 Years Of The Challenger Muscle Car

Only 70 examples of each high-impact color are being produced.

Dodge introduced its Challenger for the 1970 model year, so it coincide with the introduction of the 2020 model year, Dodge introduced a limited-production special edition. The 2020 Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition goes on sale in the spring, and it gives the Challenger an extra dose of retro styling. With its throwback color scheme and limited volume, this new 50th Anniversary Edition is sure to be an instant collector's item.

To properly celebrate 50 years of its iconic muscle car, Dodge will offer this special edition on four Challenger trim levels (GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack and R/T Scat Pack Widebody) in seven high-impact colors: TorRed, F8 Green and Go Mango are carryover colors while Gold Rush, Frostbite, Hellraisin and Sinamon Stick are new colors. Only 70 examples of each color/trim combination will be built limiting overall production of the 2020 Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition to just 1,960 units. This package will cost $4,995 on the GT and $5,995 V8 models.

In addition to the bold color scheme, each of the  50th Anniversary Edition Challengers feature a satin black hood, roof and trunk (paint on the hood, wrap on the roof and trunk) and "Gold School" finish on the wheels and exterior badges; "Challenger 50" decals are added on the grille and rear spoiler. All V8 versions comes standard with a Shaker hood – Dodge points out this is the first time this hood has been offered on the Widebody Challenger – while the headlights even get a unique touch with "50" illuminated inside the Air Catcher lights. The interior adds retro-themed gauges and start-up screen, and the "50" is embroidered on the seats and the Berber carpeted floor mats.

Despite being a decade old, the Dodge Challenger is selling stronger than ever with last year marking the car's best sales year ever and the recent third quarter setting a record for the car as well. What does this mean for collectors? The Challenger is a hot seller, which means these 50th Anniversary Edition will be snatched up fast.
