Drive Or Show This One-Owner 1984 Mazda RX-7

Early Japanese sports cars like the RX-7 are still flying under the collector car radar.

As the collectability status of '80s and '90s cars continues to increase, a growing number of Japanese cars will be looked at as true classics. Included on this list are Mazda's collection of Rotary-powered sports cars including this beautiful 1984 Mazda RX-7. Even better, this RX-7 is being sold by Streetside Classics of Atlanta for $11,995, which is about the same price that you can pick up an early C4 Corvette.

While Mazda might be best known for its MX-5 Miata roadster, the brand's use of Wankel rotary engines in its RX-badged cars are popular among performance enthusiasts, and Mazda has stoked that fire in recent years including the introduction of the rotary-powered RX-Vision Concept. The key advantages of a rotary engine, of course, are the high revs and low weight – big advantages for enthusiasts.

The first-gen RX-7 started in 1978 and lasted until 1985, and the 1984 RX-7 GS packs the 1.1-liter 12A Wankel Rotary under the hood. Although power output is 100 horsepower and 104 lb-ft of torque, this car had perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low curb weight of under 2,500 pounds.

This particular 1984 Mazda RX-7 is even more special because of its mileage and condition. This car has definitely been taken care of since it was produced showing excellent condition inside and out, and it has been enjoyed, too, with 131,000 miles clocked on the odometer. The icing for this classic is that it's a true one-owner car!

While there are plenty of classic cars you can buy in this price range, this well-driven and well-preserved RX-7 offers the perfect balance between a daily driver and a show car.
