Watch This Story Of A $100 Project Car

Sometimes a good deal looks like junk to everyone else.

Being in the right place at the right time can really pay off. That’s certainly what happened in this story told by YouTube channel Fuzzy Dice Projects. A gearhead who already has too many cars hosts a backyard party, only to have a neighbor offer to sell his 1991 Pontiac Firebird for a mere $100 instead of just scrapping the car. Who could possibly refuse such a deal?

If you’ve ever purchased a vehicle like this, there’s always that moment of fear when you first try starting it up. While the 305ci Chevy small block V8 engine immediately turned over, but the engine didn’t fire up easily. Still, once everything started moving, the engine hummed smoothly.

This Firebird looked rough outside and in. Thick dirt covered the paint, but there was still clear coat underneath. The interior hadn’t fared as well, with the cloth upholstery literally coming apart and the muffler sitting in the backseat. There’s also a whole list of mechanical problems, which is why the car sat for about three years. It’s a pretty typical story.

It’s always satisfying to see a neglected car. You get to see work on the mechanicals and aesthetics, of course with unforeseen problems, which is par for the course with any project car. While it doesn’t turn out perfect, it’s functional and the exterior looks great.

An increasing number of people are considering these old GM F-bodies to be classics, although this particular one isn’t as desirable as something like an IROC Z or Trans Am. Older collectors might scoff at the idea, but to younger people looking to build their collection, these were the cool cars when they were kids. There’s a certain nostalgia with something like this Firebird, plus it’s more financially accessible than a late-60’s muscle car, especially when the purchase price was just $100.
