This clean Corvair shows up right in time for the summer.

Chevrolet’s Corvair is a unique vehicle, being the only mass-produced American vehicle to feature a rear-mounted and air-cooled engine setup. While it was popular at first, its distinctive nature came to haunt it, with customers flocking towards the then-new Ford Mustang. Despite that, the Corvair has a sizeable following of fans and collectors these days. This 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible certainly looks pristine, making it a tempting choice for mid-summer purchase.

Shelton Classics and Performance in Mooresville, North Carolina offers this Corvair for sale. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but it seems as if this running and driving example received a restoration at some point. The exterior is in truly remarkable shape, from the shining paint to the fresh-looking convertible top.

Meanwhile, the interior has a black theme, which nicely contrasts outward appearance created by the maroon paint and tan soft top. Everything electronic on this car seems to be functioning well, with the speedometer, tachometer, and gauges for the oil pressure and temperature all in working condition. Additionally, features such as the radio and all exterior lights are functioning.

This second-generation Corvair features a rear-located 2.7-liter air-cooled flat 6-cylinder engine, which pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission to drive the rear wheels. Judging from the badging on the outside that proudly displays these figures, this model made 140 horsepower from the factory, as opposed to the standard output of 95-horsepower.

The 5-digit odometer on this example displays 66,012 miles, so this immaculate Corvair has many miles ahead of it, and now just needs someone to appreciate it!
