The predecessor to the Dodge Charger was this yellow, V-8-powered coupe.

Before the Dodge Charger became its own nameplate in 1966, the name was used by Dodge on two previous occasions. First there was the 1964 Dodge Charger Concept followed a year later by the 1965 Dodge Dart Charger. From the factory, Dodge only built 180 Dart Chargers with an additional 300 were available as dealer-installed kits, and Savannah Classic Cars has one of these forgotten Mopar footnotes listed for sale at $29,950.

Starting with the Dart GT, the 1965 Dodge Dart Charger added a yellow paint job (no fancy names here, just "Yellow") with a black vinyl top. It would appear that this car is one of the dealer-installed Dart Chargers since the fender trim tag lists the paint code as "881" instead of "999" or "991," which was found on the factory Dart Chargers. Either way, it's an extremely rare Mopar being one of just 480 1965 Dodge Dart Chargers to be made.

In addition to the paint color, these cars also came with Cragar mag wheels and special "Dart Charger 273" fender emblems. The 273, of course, calls out the Dart's higher-horsepower (235 hp) 273 CID, four-barrel V-8 that was under the hood, and this engine had special finned valve covers. The only interior available was black vinyl, and the Hurst four-speed manual and three-speed automatic transmission were available. This car has the manual gearbox topped with the cue-ball shift knob
